CERSHAS is the largest Hungarian academic research institute fundamental in theoretical and applied research in economics, especially on topics like the analysis of the modern market economy and transition related issues of the Hungarian economy

Our main research focus is on the development of rural sectors in both Hungarian and other Central and East European countries, with special emphasis on socio‚Äźeconomic changes and social problems, caused by transition and the EU enlargement. The findings of the research programs of CERSHAS are made available for, and are regularly used by, policy-making bodies, and we emphasise academic co-operation with other European research centres. Our expertise in evaluations of rural development programmes, the preparation and the assessment of strategic policy documents, the development of rural policy institutions etc.
